Located in the Haines Borough and approximately 38 miles northwest of Juneau, Excursion Inlet is home to just 11 people year-around. During World War II, Excursion Inlet was a resupply point for the Aleutian Campaign. By the time the terminal was complete, The Aleutian Campaign was over. German prisoners of war were brought in to dismantle the base and salvage usable materials. The docks and some of the buildings were sold to the cannery and remain standing today.
