Chilkat Lake is approximately 30 miles west of Haines with river access only. To arrive there, you will travel by jet boat or floatplane in the summer months and in the winter months, by snowmobile, as the public road system ends about 2 miles from the lake. You will not find any chain restaurants or stop lights in “town.”
There are under 100 cabins on this lake with less than 12 occupied a year around. The fishing in this lake is world-class, with sockeye, silver, rainbow trout, dolly varden & cutthroat.
